Emancipatory Ruralities!
Young people move into rural areas to try out post-capitalist lifestyles. But just as in the city, rural areas are also sites of multiple crises: climate, social inequality, rising land prices, etc. However, rural areas play a subordinate role in debates on how to solve these crises. Mostly, the discourses on pressing contemporary issues and on overcoming toxic structures (racism, classism, sexism, enclosure) are discussed in urban spaces. Rural coping strategies are often overlooked.
Wir präsentierten unser Projekt "biking commonauts travel the rhizome" bei der internationalen Sommerakademie 'Rural Futures' der ZEIT Stiftung.
biking commonauts travel the rhizome
We understand the new rural lust as an opportunity for exchange. With our project "Biking Commonauts travel the Rhizome" we wanted to create common spaces of city and countryside that focus more on these coping strategies and discuss emancipatory ruralities. Entrance points are stories about new and old rural Commons. During a 10 day bike-trip with 20 people, we experienced such Commons and organised events around them. We documented our tour and created a public experience at documentafifteen. During our workshop at 'Rural Futures' we dived into this rurality and present some of our results.
